If you think that changing your eating habits and making healthy organic food as a vital part of your daily life is enough, think again! Undeniably, what we consume on a daily basis summarizes pretty much the major part of our health journey; however, don’t forget about other aspects of our daily regiments such as our personal hygiene. Did you ever analyze how much we expose our bodies to toxins daily? Such a simple routine action as brushing teeth can add pollution to our bodies. When it comes to choosing a toothpaste, I used to go for the one with the most promising whitening effect. Truth is, we all want that coveted Hollywood smile. So recently, it dawned on me to look deeper into the ingredients of “regular” toothpaste. I realized that conventional toothpaste is full of harmful toxins.
What is Fluoride?
The proponents of fluoride claim that it is saving us from tooth decay. But is it really good for us? What is fluoride? Fluoride is an element from the halogen group, as are iodide and chloride. It is a waste by-product of the fertilizer and aluminum industry. It is commonly added to the water supply to fight tooth decay in children. The initial studies were done back in 1940s in order to demonstrate fluoride’s effectiveness as an anti-cavity fighting element. Those conducted studies are now looked at as of poor scientific quality. Dental fluorosis is recognized by scientists as one of the outcomes of fluoride poisoning. With the whooping 60% mark, America is on top of the list in Fluoride consumption. In comparison, 97% of western Europe has rejected fluoridated water because of the proven health risks.
How Fluoride lowers your IQ
A new study published in the Institute of Environmental Health Sciencesjournal Environmental Health Perspectives has found that fluoride damages brain development and leads to significantly lower IQ levels in humans.
A 2008 Scientific American report stated that “Scientific attitudes toward fluoridation may be starting to shift” as new evidence revealed the link between fluoride and disorders affecting, bones, teeth, the thyroid gland, and brain. The study also “Concluded that fluoride can subtly alter endocrine function, especially in the thyroid — the gland that produces hormones regulating growth and metabolism.”
Fluoride can be found not only in water and toothpaste, but also in processed foods made with fluoridated water. Next time you brush your teeth, take a look at the back label of your tooth paste. Most of the conventional toothpastes tell you to “contact a poison control center immediately” if you swallow your toothpaste. Really? And this is something that we use daily!
I personally have switched to the all natural, free of fluoride toothpaste – Earthpaste. This toothpaste does everything without the chemicals and dangers of other toothpaste. It does its job well, and i am certainly not going to call a doctor if I accidentally swallow it.
