Fortunately, St. John’s wort has become very popular in cosmetology due to the tanning substances contained in it, which act as an astringent, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. The herb (St. John’s wort) contains a variety of biologically active compounds (tannins, resin, coloring agents, flavonoids, beta carotene, etc.) and has multilateral healing properties. You can rejuvenate and moisturize your skin naturally with St John’s Wort.
What to do
You can prepare various natural masks and creams with St. John Wort at home which will clean, moisturize, rejuvenate, and simply make your skin beautiful. St. John’s wort is a great plant because it suits all skin types – oily, dry, normal and combination skin. St. John’s Wort Tincture Recipe
Oily or combination type skin can be easily cleaned with a St. John’s wort tincture. To prepare, mix 8 teaspoons of dry powdered St. John’s wort with two cups of boiling water and cook on low heat for 10 to 12 minutes. Let the tincture sit for 1.5-2 hours in a covered pot and then strain through cheesecloth – the tincture is ready to be used. Apply the tincture onto a clean face with a cotton swab. After 5 – 10 minutes rinse your face with cool water. If possible, perform this procedure 2-3 times during the day. Remember, a freshly prepared infusion of St. John’s wort can be stored for not more than a day. The leftovers of the tincture can be used as a face wash.
For Oily Skin
If you have oily skin with enlarged pores along with an increased tendency to develop acne, you can make ice cubes out of St. John’s wort tincture which you can use to wipe your face every morning. To do this, cool and strain the St. John’s wort tincture (same as above) and pour into a ice-tray and place in the freezer. This method will not only cleanse the skin and prevent the appearance of acne, but also will tone and rejuvenate the skin. Applying ice for cosmetic purposes shrinks enlarged pores, preventing the development of acne. You may also prepare the ice cubes with the mixed infusion of St. John’s wort, sage, eucalyptus or camomile. In this case all medicinal plants are mixed in equal proportions.
For Dry Skin
For dry skin, prone to premature appearance of fine lines and flaking, especially in cold and windy weather, you can make a fresh face cream by mixing one tablespoon of St. John’s wort tincture with two teaspoons of slightly melted butter. Thoroughly blend these components together and add 5-6 drops of fresh lemon juice. Once again stir well – it’s ready to be used. Apply the cream on to clean skin. For best results, use this cream in the evening before going to bed. The night cream is easily absorbed, softens and smooths the skin, enriching it with vitamins.
Rejuvenating Mask
For a nutritious and brightening effect, make the following mask which is recommended for dry and normal skin. Take three tablespoons of freshly prepared hot St. John’s wort tincture and stir in two teaspoons of honey and add three tablespoons of fresh cucumber juice. Apply to a clean face and leave on for 5-8 minutes. Then rinse off the mask with warm water.
Baths with the addition of St. John’s wort will revive dull skin, help with fatigue and strengthen the nervous system. The duration of the bath should be for 15-20 minutes.
Now you can rejuvenate and moisturize your skin naturally with St John’s Wort!
